Gustav Otto Heinrich von Wedel

Gustav Otto Heinrich von Wedel (born July 7, 1826 in Althof ( Wehlau district ), † September 24, 1891 in Königsberg ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

His parents were Karl Wilhelm von Wedel (* May 7, 1751; † March 29, 1831) and his third wife Charlotte, born von Liszewska (* September 25, 1783; † June 4, 1861). His father was a Prussian major a. D. and hereditary lord of Uchtenhagen and Althof.

Military career

Wedel received his education at the Lobenichtschen Higher Citizens' School in Königsberg. On March 28, 1839, he came to Kulm as a cadet, and on August 10, 1843 , he was transferred to the 33rd Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a non-commissioned officer . On November 1, 1843, he became a Portepeefähnrich and on August 27, 1846, Second Lieutenant . On June 14, 1849 he was appointed adjutant of the 1st Battalion. From August 12, 1853 to April 7, 1855 and again from December 18, 1855 to September 30, 1857 Wedel General War School was commanded. During that time he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant on April 17, 1857 .

On May 1, 1858, he was transferred to the cadet house in Kulm as a teacher . On September 12, 1859 he was placed à la suite of the 33rd Infantry Regiment, but initially remained a teacher. On December 27, 1860 he became company commander in Fusilier Regiment No. 33. As such, he took part in the German War in 1866 . On March 10, 1870, he was promoted to major , but was initially only aggregated in the regiment, then from April 12, 1870 was assigned and on July 22, 1870 appointed commander of the regiment's replacement battalion. In the war against France in 1870/71 Wedel fought at the siege of Metz , in the battles at Amiens and at the Hallue , where he was wounded. But he was also in the battles of Berlequcourt and Forgettes. On December 23, 1870, he received the Iron Cross, 2nd class.

After the war he was appointed lieutenant colonel on January 18, 1875 , and on March 12, 1878 under position à la suite with the command of the grenadier regiment "Kronprinz" (1st East Prussian) No. 1 . On April 13, 1878, he was appointed regiment commander and on April 18, 1878, he was promoted to colonel . On September 9, 1879 he received the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class with a ribbon before he was put up for disposal on April 15, 1882 with a pension . He was also authorized to wear his old uniform. On June 1, 1886 he was given the character of major general before he died on September 24, 1891 in Königsberg in Prussia.

Wedel married Antoinette Pauline Valeska Freiin von Lu (c) kowitz (* July 5, 1828 - July 10, 1884) widow of Ernst Theodor von Schrötter (1813–1849) in Berlin on September 29, 1859. The couple had several children including:

  • Hans Otto Gustav (born January 31, 1861 - † February 8, 1900), captain in Grenadier Regiment No. 1
  • Antonie (Toni) Elma Valeska (born July 19, 1862)
  • Elisabeth Emilie Charlotte (born August 24, 1864)
