H. P. Painter
The H.P. painter (active around 500 BC in Athens ) was a Greek vase painter of the red-figure style. His name H.-P.-Maler stands for Herakles and Pholos , which are depicted on the vase in Basel.
Sir John D. Beazley attributed the BS 489 bowl to him in Basel, Antikenmuseum and Ludwig Collection , but considered assigning him a bowl in the Throne-Holst collection as an early work. This attribution was endorsed by Gloria Ferrari Pinney. The latter tried to classify the work of the H.P. painter in the work of the so-called carpenter painter . In the meantime, the H.P. painter has also been assigned the fragment of the HC 451 bowl in the HA Cahn collection in Basel .
