The Chelis Painter was a Greek vase painter who worked towards the end of the 6th century BC. Chr. In Athens worked.

The Chelis Painter was one of the relatively early painters of red-figure bowls . His creative period is around 530 to 500 BC. BC. The name of the Chelis painter has not survived, which is why John D. Beazley , who recognized and defined his artistic handwriting within the large traditional body of antique painted ceramics , made him distinguishable with an emergency name . He received this emergency name after two name vases , two bowls signed by the potter Chelis . It is possible that the Chelis painter is identical to the potter Chelis, but this cannot be said on the basis of the previous inventory of known works and signatures that Chelis never identify as a painter. He worked with Oltos on one of the two bowls . Other bowls and fragments have also been ascribed to him.
