The HK Gomel ( Belarusian ХК Гомель , Russian ХК Гомель / HK Gomel) is a Belarusian ice hockey club from Homel , of the Belarusian Extraliga plays. For several years the team also took part in the East European Hockey League . The club was founded in 2000 and plays its home games in the Gomel Ice Sports Palace , which can seat 2,700 spectators.

history

The association was founded on August 24, 2000 by a decision of the Homelskaya Woblasz regional administration by the city of Homel . The oil company Gomel Transneft was won as the main sponsor , whose managing director Alexej Kostjuschenko became the chairman of the association. The first coach of the men's team was Yevgeny I. Lebedev. The team's first official game took place on September 17, 2000 in the Gomel Ice Sports Palace.

Only three years after it was founded, the HK Homel men's team won its first Belarusian championship title . A year later, the club reached third place in the championship, and he was runner-up in the East European Hockey League in 2003 and 2004 . Due to the championship title in 2003, HK Homel was able to take part in the IIHF Continental Cup 2003/04 , the final tournament of which took place in Homel. HK Gomel finished second in this tournament.

The club has won the Belarusian championship once (2003) . The team also won the Belarusian cup competition in 2001, 2003, 2004, 2007 and 2012.

In 2019 the club took fourth place at the IIHF Continental Cup .
