HMS Selene (P254) was a submarine of the British Royal Navy in World War II and after.
history
The Selene ( ancient Greek moon goddess , see Selene ) was a boat of the fourth batch of the British S-Class ; this lot is also referred to as the subtle class . The boat was launched on April 16, 1943 at Cammell Laird in Birkenhead , northwest England, was launched on April 24, 1944 and was put into service by the Royal Navy on July 14, 1944.
On March 19, 1945 the Selene (Commander: Lt. HRB Newton) north-east of Sumatra ( Dutch East Indies ) damaged a Japanese sailing ship with the deck gun . Three days later, the boat also sank three other Japanese sailing ships with artillery off Sumatra. On June 25, 1945, the Selene sank two Japanese coasters and a sailing ship in the Gulf of Thailand . On July 2, a coaster was sunk in the Gulf of Thailand and another damaged on July 3, 1945 in the same sea area.
After the war, the Selene continued to be actively used by the Royal Navy. After the end of her service, the Selene was sold for scrapping. It arrived in Gateshead on June 6, 1961 , where it was subsequently canceled.
