The HMS Spirit was a British Royal Navy submarine during World War II .

history

The Spirit ( Engl. Spirit ) was a boat of the third construction lot of the successful S-Class . This lot is also known as the Seraph class . It was launched on October 27, 1942 at Cammell Laird in Birkenhead , northwest England, was launched on July 20, 1943 and was commissioned by the Royal Navy on October 25, 1943.

The Navy deployed the submarine under the command of Lt.  AW Langridge entered the Asian theater of war .

On July 9, 1944, the Spirit reported the sinking of a small Japanese oil tanker north of Sumatra ( Dutch East Indies ).

On September 14 and 19, 1944, the submarine sank a total of four Siamese sailing ships with the deck gun off the west coast of Siam (now Thailand) .

On 22 January 1945, the submerged Spirit in the southern Java Sea at 6 ° 2 '  S , 110 ° 41'  O the Japanese ship Ryushin Maru with on-board artillery. On the same day, they sank another Japanese unit.

On March 14, 1945, the British submarine sank off the island of Massa Lambo in the Java Sea at 5 ° 34 '  S , 114 ° 26'  O the Japanese Coaster Ryuho Maru  (300  BRT ) with the deck gun.

The HMS Spirit was sold for scrapping on January 4, 1950 and demolished in Grays in July 1950 .
