HMS Shalimar was a British Royal Navy submarine during World War II .

history

The Shalimar was part of the third batch of the successful S-Class . It was on April 17, 1942, the Naval Shipyard Chatham in southeast England Chatham to put Kiel , ran on 22 April 1943 by the stack and is provided by the Royal Navy on April 22, 1944 in service.

The submarine was launched in 1944/45 under the command of LtCdr. WG Meeke deployed in the Asian theater of war.

On November 2, 1944, the Shalimar sank five Japanese landing craft with the deck gun in front of Car Nicobar ( Nicobaren ) . On December 4th, 5th and 10th 1944 a total of six Japanese sailing ships were sunk in the Strait of Malacca . On December 14, the recessed Shalimar ago Medan ( Dutch East Indies ) at 3 ° 55 '  N , 98 ° 50'  O the Japanese auxiliary minesweeper Choun Maru no. 7 (163  BRT ) with artillery. The following day, a tug and two barges were sunk in Malakka Street . In January 1945, five more Japanese units were sunk in Malakka Street with the on-board cannon.

In August 1945, the submarine operated together with the sister boat Sea Dog mainly in Malakka Street. A total of five Japanese units were sunk between August 1st and August 7th.

The Shalimar was sold in 1950 and then scrapped in Troon .
