HMS Sea Nymph (P223) was a British Royal Navy submarine during World War II .
history
The Sea Nymph ( English : mermaid ) was a third batch of the successful S-Class boat . This lot is also known as the Seraph class . She was laid down on May 6, 1941 at Cammell Laird in Birkenhead, northwest England , launched on July 29, 1942 and was commissioned by the Royal Navy on November 3, 1942.
The Sea Nymph was under the command of Lt. JPH Oakley used in the North Sea and the Bay of Biscay . Despite several attacks, no combat success could be achieved:
- On July 13, 1943, the boat unsuccessfully attacked the German submarine U 592 in the Bay of Biscay with six torpedoes.
- On March 1, 1944, the Sea Nymph attacked the Norwegian transporter Jupiter (2471 BRT) off Bodø (Norway) with four torpedoes, without success .
- On March 3, 1944, the German freighter Levante (4769 GRT) was also unsuccessfully attacked with four torpedoes off Bodø .
The Sea Nymph was scrapped in Troon, Scotland , in June 1948 .
