HMS Strongbow (P235) was a British Royal Navy submarine during World War II .

history

The Strongbow ( English: Strong bow ) was a boat of the third batch of the successful S-Class ; this lot is also known as the Seraph class . She was laid down on April 17, 1942 at Scott's Shipbuilding & Engineering Co. in Greenock, West Scotland , was launched on August 30, 1943 and was commissioned by the Royal Navy on December 23, 1943.

The boat was mainly used in the Pacific War. The commandant was Lt. John Anthony Rose Troup.

On September 2, 1944, the boat sank 26 nautical miles east of Phuket ( Thailand ) at 7 ° 57 '  N , 98 ° 49'  O Japanese military transport Toso Maru no. 1 (292 BRT) with the deck gun . A small Siamese transport ship was sunk in the same attack. From September 3 to 5, 1944, six smaller Japanese transport vehicles with the on-board gun were sunk off the west coast of Siam ( Thailand ). On 12 October 1944 torpedoed and sank the Strongbow in the Straits of Malacca at 2 ° 50 '  N , 100 ° 50'  O the Japanese freighter Manryo Maru (1185 GRT). On November 28, 1944, she sank a Japanese tug and a light ship with artillery off the west coast of Sumatra . On November 30, 1944, the Strongbow sank three Japanese sailing ships off the west coast of Sumatra. On January 10, 1945, another Japanese sailing ship was sunk in Malakka Street.

On January 13, 1945, the Strongbow was discovered off Port Swettenham ( Malaya ) and then attacked for 14 hours by Japanese underground hunters with depth charges. The badly damaged boat escaped, but was not repaired and was decommissioned in Falmouth in June 1945 . It was scrapped in Preston in April 1946 .
