The HMS Stonehenge (P232) was a British Royal Navy submarine during World War II .

history

The Stonehenge (see Stonehenge ) was a third batch of the successful S-Class boat . This lot is also known as the Seraph class . She was laid down on April 4, 1942 at Cammell Laird in Birkenhead, northwest England , launched on March 23, 1943 and was commissioned by the Royal Navy on June 15, 1943.

The new war building was mainly used in the Pacific War. The commander of the submarine was Lt. David Stuart McNeile Verschoyle-Campbell. McNeile Verschoyle-Campbell was awarded the Distinguished Service Order for his commitment .

The submarine sank the Japanese merchant ship Koryo Maru No. 2 (726 GRT) north of Penang (Malaya) on February 5, 1944 . On February 12, 1944, the west coast of Malaya at 5 ° 46 '  N , 99 ° 52'  O Japanese auxiliary Minelayer Choko Maru (889 BRT) sunk.

In February 1944, the HMS Stonehenge left its base in Trincomalee on Ceylon and reached the operational area between Sumatra and the Nicobar Islands on February 25th. The submarine and its entire crew have been missing since March 22, 1944. The place and circumstances of the total loss are unknown.
