HMS Solent (P262) was a submarine of the British Royal Navy in World War II and after.
history
The Solent (branch of the English Channel, see Solent ) was a boat of the fourth batch of the British S-Class ; this construction lot is also known as the subtle class . The boat was launched on May 7, 1943 at Cammell Laird in Birkenhead , northwest England, launched on June 8, 1944 and was commissioned by the Royal Navy on September 7, 1944.
On 26 April 1945 the recessed Solent (Commander: Lt. JD Martin), together with its sister boat Sleuth (commander: Lt. KH Martin) before Kalambau in the Java Sea at 4 ° 50 ' S , 115 ° 40' O the Japanese auxiliary minesweeper Wa 3 (215 ts ) with their deck guns . Between August 5 and 15, 1945, the two submarines sank 15 Japanese sailing ships together in the Gulf of Thailand . In addition, the Solent sank a Japanese patrol boat there alone on August 15 .
After the war, the boat remained in active service with the Royal Navy. It was sold for scrapping in 1961, arrived in Troon, Scotland on August 28, 1961, and was subsequently demolished there.
