HMS Sleuth (P261) was a submarine of the British Royal Navy in World War II and after.

history

The Sleuth ( English : detective , synonym for bloodhound ) was a boat of the fourth batch of the British S-Class . This lot is also known as the Subtle class . The boat was launched on June 30, 1943 at Cammell Laird in Birkenhead , northwest England, was launched on July 6, 1944 and was commissioned by the Royal Navy on October 8, 1944.

On 26 April 1945 sank Sleuth (Commander: Lt. KH Martin), together with its sister boat HMS Solent (commander: Lt. JD Martin) before Kalambau in the Java Sea at 4 ° 50 '  S , 115 ° 40'  O the Japanese auxiliary minesweeper Wa 3 (215  ts ) with their deck guns . Between August 5 and 15, 1945, the two boats together sank 15 Japanese sailing ships in the Gulf of Thailand .

After the war, the Sleuth remained in active service in the Royal Navy. On June 13, 1952, she collided with the destroyer HMS Zephyr in the port of Portland .

After the Sleuth was sold for scrapping, it reached Charlestown on September 15, 1958 , where it was subsequently demolished.
