HMS Simoom (P225) was a British Royal Navy submarine during World War II .

history

The Simoom ( Arabic: poisonous wind , a sandstorm in North Africa and the Levant , see Samum ) was a submarine of the third construction lot of the S-class ; this lot is also known as the Seraph class . It was launched on July 14, 1941 at Cammell Laird in Birkenhead , northwestern England, launched on October 12, 1942, and entered service by the Royal Navy on December 30, 1942.

The area of ​​operation of the boat was in the Mediterranean , where it mainly fought the Axis supplies in the war in North Africa . The commandant of the boat was LT. Geoffrey Deryck Nicholson Milner.

On August 8, 1943, the Simoom attacked a merchant ship east of Bastia , but all torpedoes missed the target. The following day, the Italian light cruiser Giuseppe Garibaldi was attacked southwest of La Spezia at 44 ° 4 '  N , 9 ° 23'  E. The torpedoes passed the primary target and hit the Italian destroyer Vincenzo Gioberti (2326 ts) with devastation.

On November 2, 1943, the Simoom left their base in Port Said , Egypt , to patrol the Aegean Sea . It probably ran into a German sea ​​mine on November 4, 1943 off the Cycladic island of Donousa . There were no survivors.
