story
The Graubünden University of Applied Sciences was founded in 1963 as an evening technical center in Chur . In 1972 the evening technical center was recognized by a federal decree as a higher technical institute. A few years later, economic courses were also offered. The first full-time courses were offered in 1990. In 1991, the business built its own school, the High School of Economics and Administration HWV , while the Higher Technical School now College of Engineering and Architecture HTA called . In October 1997 both schools received the status of a technical college. With the formation of the seven universities of applied sciences in Switzerland, the fields of technology and economics merged in 2000. This created the University of Applied Sciences HTW Chur , which was part of the University of Applied Sciences Eastern Switzerland until the end of 2019 .
With the eligibility for contributions spoken by the Federal Council, the Graubünden University of Applied Sciences became the eighth public-law university of applied sciences in Switzerland on January 1, 2020 and thus withdrew from the association of the Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences. A university center is to be built in Chur by 2027, provided that the Graubünden electorate agrees.
