Hammermühle is a district of the town of Parsberg in the Neumarkt district in the Upper Palatinate .

location

The Hammermühle district is located around 1.3 km north of Parsberg in the Schwarzen Laber valley .

history

The place name indicates the processing of iron. Hammer mills were mill works powered by water power with rotating metal hammers for crushing raw materials. The extraction of the iron should have taken place in the wider area of Parsberg. The two-gabled Mühlstadl in the Hammermühle district is one of the oldest surviving buildings on the Schwarzen Laber. This building was built between 1440 and 1450 by order of the knight Hans von Parsberg .

In 1771 the servant house was built. The former flour mill dates from around 1780. The chapel was built in 1786 as an extension of the servants' house. In 1866 the Hammermühle waterworks was built . From 1868 a sawmill was built at the hammer mill that still exists today. Until 1914 there was still a plaster mill at the hammer mill. The worst flood to date occurred on February 9, 1909.

From 1914 the mill wheel was replaced by a turbine to generate electricity. For many years the electricity generated here was used exclusively to operate the mill. For economic reasons, the grinding mill was shut down in 1953 and the electrical energy that continues to be generated is fed into the public power grid.
