Kerschhofen is part of the municipality of Parsberg in the Upper Palatinate district of Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate .
geography
The church village of Kerschhofen has 48 inhabitants and is located at an altitude of approx. 470 m above sea level. NN . From a geological point of view, it is part of the Upper Palatinate Jura . Neighboring towns are Darshofen , Eglwang and Krappenhofen .
The Kerschbach rises in several sources in the village, which in turn flows into the Schwarze Laber after a kilometer in Darshofen .
The image of the place is shaped by its three rocks. At the entrance to the village, coming from Darshofen , in the center and at the exit towards Krappenhofen. A rich spring gushes under the latter, which together with others make up the Kerschbach, which rises there.
Below the rock in the middle of the village is a large cave-like depression, which was probably never used extensively because it was inaccessible by vehicles on the steep mountain. But directly below at street level there was a small depression in the mountain, which was apparently earlier carved out of the rock layers. It served until around 1952 as a storage facility for smaller handcarts, as they used to be common in part-time farming with cows as draft animals. Up until that time, to the right of it was the so-called Hüthäusl , the small residential house of the shepherd and keeper . At that time, all farmers in the village still had sheep that were grazed by the shepherd for the village on the slopes (dry pastures). The shepherd not only had to tend the sheep, but also the cattle in summer. He also ran a small farm and lived on the farmer's deputies for his services. In addition to the pasture services, he usually also performed the funeral services, even if the grave in the cemetery in the neighboring village of Darshofen was usually dug by the sexton there .
The mountain slopes near Kerschhofen were typical dry slopes with juniper plants. Since there is no longer any regular grazing there, the typical images have been lost because the perennial vegetation on the slopes increases. Still but one finds the Pasque - there also called daffodils - and other typical vegetation. Especially on the dry slope to the right above the first rock, which is entered in the Bavarian biotope list, you can still find old plants and flowers that are peculiar to this type of biotope.
