Hampton Sides (* 1962 in Memphis , Tennessee ) is an American historian , author and journalist .

Life

Sides graduated from Yale University with a BA in history. In the past he has given guest lectures at various institutions, such as Columbia University in New York City , Yale, Stanford University in Stanford , California , Colorado College , Southern Methodist University in Dallas , Texas and on National World War II Museum in New Orleans , Louisiana .

In addition to writing history and non-fiction books, Sides is a reporter for Outside magazine and writes for National Geographic Magazine , The New Yorker , Esquire , Men's Journal and The Washington Post .

Sides lives with his wife, who is also a journalist and previously worked for National Public Radio (NPR), and their three sons in Santa Fe , New Mexico .
