Handball district league ↓

In the handball GDR league of men , the second representation of SC Dynamo Berlin won the North Season in the 1987/88 season. Since second teams were not eligible for promotion, the BSG Stahl Brandenburg / Kirchmöser returned as second in the table in the handball GDR league . After 1985 , the BSG locomotive RAW Cottbus was promoted to the upper house for the second time from the southern season . By increasing the league to twelve teams in the following season, the third in the table of the North Staffel also rose to SG Lok / Motor Süd-Ost Magdeburg . They prevailed in a qualifying round against the table runner -up in the South Squadron, the ASG Officers' College Löbau and the last in the upper league of the BSG SVKE Britz .

North season

The second representation of SC Dynamo Berlin secured the relay victory, before the relegated from the handball GDR league of the BSG Stahl Brandenburg / Kirchmöser . Since second representatives were not eligible for promotion, the Brandenburgers returned to the top division immediately and were accompanied by third place in the table of SG Lok / Motor Süd-Ost Magdeburg . This prevailed successfully in a qualifying round, which resulted from the increase in the league for the following season. Of the two newcomers from the district league, only the company sports community (BSG) EAW Treptow was able to hold the class. Motor Stralsund rose to the bottom of the table after just one year back into the third division. Stralsund was accompanied by BSG Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt, which lost in the relegation against the second representative of Dynamo Halle-Neustadt .

Season south

The BSG Lokomotive RAW Cottbus secured the relay victory and rose to the handball GDR league for the second time after 1985 . The second in the table, the ASG Officers' College Löbau, took part in a qualification round for promotion to the upper house, which resulted from the increase in the following season. In this they took second place and remained in the GDR league. The BSG mine lamp Zwickau took third place as relegated from the upper house. Of the three newcomers from the district league, the second representative of Motor Eisenach and BSG Motor Hermsdorf with ranks nine and ten could hold the class. Only the BSG Lokomotive Hoyerswerda was relegated to the district league after only one year. The second team from Dynamo Halle-Neustadt was able to keep the class after a victorious relegation against Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt.

Qualifying round for the GDR Oberliga

By increasing the handball East German league to twelve teams in the following season, the last free place was played in a qualifying round. In this, the two GDR league second eligible for promotion ( SG Lok / Motor Süd-Ost Magdeburg and ASG Officers College Löbau) and the GDR upper league tenth ( BSG SVKE Britz ) took part.
