Hannes Mayer (forest scientist)

Hannes Mayer (born January 25, 1922 in Altötting / Upper Bavaria , † April 23, 2001 in Vienna ; also Johann Mayer ) was a German - Austrian forest scientist and university professor.

Life

Mayer studied forest science at the University of Munich from 1945 to 1949 and then worked in the Bavarian forest administration. In 1951 he received his doctorate in State Economics (Dr. oec. Publ.) At the State Economics Faculty of the University of Munich with the text The natural distribution of the larch in the Berchtesgaden Limestone Alps . In 1961 he became a private lecturer and curator there. In 1965 he was offered a professorship for silviculture at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna . From 1967 to 1990 he was head of the International Association of Forest Research Institutes - working groups for mountain forest management (1967–1971), ecosystems (1971 to 1980) and primeval forests (1980–1990). Mayer was buried at the Döblinger Friedhof in Vienna.
