Hans Dietrich Schumann

Hans Dietrich Schumann (born May 27, 1911 in Plauen , Vogtland , † April 26, 2001 in Dresden ) was a German surgeon and urologist.

Life

Schumann attended high school in Meissen . After graduating from high school, he began to study medicine at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg . In 1932 he became active in the Corps Franconia Würzburg . When he was inactive , he moved to the University of Innsbruck , the University of Rostock and the University of Cologne . In 1937 he passed the state examination in Cologne. In the same year he was awarded a Dr. med. PhD . He went through the medical internship at the Plauen City Hospital (today's Vogtland Clinic). In 1939 he was called up to the medical department of the 26th Infantry Division in Aachen . At the same time he was a scientific assistant in the Cologne pathology department. In 1941 he went to the Surgical Clinic of the Reich University of Strasbourg . In 1944/45 he served in a medical company. In the post-war period he completed his specialist training in his hometown. Since 1948 a specialist in surgery, he moved to the Rostock University Hospital , where he qualified as a professor in 1951 . In 1952 he became a senior physician and lecturer . Since 1955 also a urologist, he dealt intensively with prostate cancer . During his time as acting clinic director (1955–1957) the University of Rostock appointed him professor . The Dresden-Friedrichstadt hospital appointed him in 1957 as chief physician of the surgical clinic. After 21 years he entered in 1978 into the retirement . The Corps Silvania (then still in Tharandt ) awarded him the ribbon in 1994 . He died at the age of 89.
