Hans Aspe

Hans Espe (born September 8, 1885 in Königsberg ; † June 27, 1965 in the train near Hanover ) was a German teacher and university professor for Romance studies .

Hans Espe graduated from the Friedrichkollegium in Königsberg in 1903 . He studied German, French and English in Königsberg and Paris (1904) and worked from 1915 as a senior teacher in Wilhelmshaven-Rüstringen and in Berlin-Zehlendorf , from 1919 to 1924 as senior studies director in Rheinhausen , from 1924 to 1933 as a state school councilor in Bückeburg . In 1927 there was an investigation in the state parliament of Schaumburg-Lippe into disciplinary proceedings against the SPD member Espe, in which the political differences clashed. He was accused of being drunk as a friend of the French and promoting the Foreign Legion and publicly singing the French national anthem, the Marseillaise . In 1933 he was sent to Danzig as a Realgymnasialdirektor (in service until 1940) for disciplinary purposes, but where he represented Hermann Gmelin at the Technical University from 1936–1940 .

After the war he was appointed head of teacher training in Erfurt by the Soviet military administration in Germany (SMAD) in October , but taught as associate professor for Romance studies at the University of Jena from 1946 to 1948 and worked as cultural attaché to the French high commissioner in Baden from 1948 to 1950 -Baden and Mainz . After moving to West Berlin in 1948, he taught pedagogy at the Free University and from 1950 headed the Scientific Teachers' Examination Office in Berlin.

Espe was an early proponent of comparative pedagogy and was the first to translate Marc-Antoine Jullien de Paris in 1954 . From 1960 to 1964 he headed the European Educators' Association .
