Hans Stein (born November 17, 1935 in Dessau ) is a German painter and graphic artist . With his numerous works on the subject of Berlin, he is often referred to as the artistic chronicler of this city.

Life

Hans Stein grew up in Dessau and received painting lessons from PEM Albrecht and Walter Dötsch in Wolfen . In 1957 he began studying at the Berlin University of the Arts , where his teachers included Hans Jaenisch , Peter Janssen and Albert Klatt . He finished his studies as a master class student with Ernst Schumacher .

Hans Stein lives and works freelance in Berlin. He has lived with the painter Anneli Schwager since 1987 and shares a studio with her. He was also a lecturer at the Berlin University of the Arts from 1989 to 2000 and gives private lessons to numerous students in painting classes. He is a member of the Federal Association of Visual Artists , the Association of Berlin Artists and the Artists' Association .
