Hans van Ooyen (* February 23, 1954 as Hansgeorg van Ooyen in Duisburg-Rheinhausen ) is a German writer , editor-in-chief and photo artist .

Life

Hans van Ooyen was born on February 23, 1954 as the son of an engineer and painter in the Rheinhausen district of Duisburg. As a schoolboy he won several literary competitions. After graduating from high school and military service, he studied German and philosophy at the Ruhr University in Bochum from 1975 . Reading of Bertolt Brecht's works shaped van Ooyen's first lyrical attempts. As early as 1974 there was a first publication under the title That we want to know . With his texts for the radio , van Ooyen also found international resonance from 1979. The radio play The Last Case , set in neo-Nazi circles , was first broadcast in the ČSSR and the GDR and only then on Südwestfunk and Westdeutscher Rundfunk . His 1980 radio play The Bloody Erika , which deals with the Düsseldorf Majdanek trial , was first broadcast in the ČSSR and in France . In addition to other radio plays, van Ooyen published his first volume of prose, Die Schrift an der Wand , in 1981 , which contains satires and short stories and won him a work grant from the Minister of Culture of North Rhine-Westphalia. In 1980 he joined the Association of German Writers and later took on a role in the NRW state board.

Van Ooyen's leadership as a left-wing political activist in the 1980s is documented in his non-fiction books The Reagan Report and To the Stars - Where Else? (both published in 1982 by the DKP -near Weltkreis-Verlag), which deal with the militarization of space . In 1983 his book Today belongs to us Germany , which deals with the history of the Nazi seizure of power in 1933. Professionally, van Ooyen initially worked as a lecturer and editor-in-chief of a publishing house and then in marketing management in Dortmund . From 1991 to 2001 he worked as an authorized signatory and partner in an agency for marketing and advertising in Dortmund, Berlin and Potsdam . Van Ooyen has been a freelance writer and ghostwriter since 2001 . His ongoing political commitment is also reflected in his numerous readings in schools. In his children's book The Return of the Water Men and in the detective radio play Die Tote in der Emscher as well as in his participation in the creation of the travel guide Mensch. Emscher! An expedition through the New Emscher Valley showed van Ooyen his close ties to this region, which had to cope with the environmentally damaging influences of early industrialization. In addition, he is involved in the "Association of Emscher Friends eV (Bottrop)" for the renaturation of the Emscher.

In addition to other volumes of prose, poetry and reportage as well as travel guides, van Ooyen has increasingly turned to photographic art in recent years, which has interested him since his early youth and which has meanwhile been reflected in numerous of his own photo volumes and has led to the establishment of his own publishing house.
