Hans Dönniges Carl Albrecht Friedrich Nicolaus Adolph Erdmann von Kleist (born March 10, 1854 in Dubbertech , Fürstenthum district ; †  August 31, 1927 in Lübeck ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

He came from the Pomeranian noble family von Kleist and belonged to the Wendisch-Tychow branch of the Tychow-Dubberow line, who were raised to the Prussian count ( primogeniture ) on August 27, 1869 . Hans was the second son of Count Ewald von Kleist auf Wendisch-Tychow (1821-1892), Prussian chamberlain and vice- superior cupbearer , and his wife Anna von Kleist (1826-1892).

As the second son of a Primogenitur count, he was unable to inherit the title of count or the paternal family estate.

Military career

Kleist joined the Uhlan Regiment "Emperor Alexander of Russia" (1st Brandenburg) No. 3 of the Prussian Army in Fürstenwalde and on August 14, 1875 became a second lieutenant . On December 11, 1877, he transferred to the reserve, devoted himself to horse breeding and soon became a well-known specialist. He initially managed the Zolondowo estate , which he sold in 1886 near Bromberg . In 1890 he was a first lieutenant in the 1st Squadron in Lancers Regiment "Graf zu Dohna" (East Prussian) No. 8 in Elk re-employed as an active officer. On September 12, 1895, he was promoted to Rittmeister and was appointed squadron chief . In this position, Kleist received the Order of the Iron Crown III in October 1896 . Class. In 1898 he resigned from active service and in 1900 bought Remonten in North America for the German East Asian Expeditionary Corps . As an expert for horses , he was henceforth active in the remounting sector. With position à la suite of his regiment and promotion to major , he was ordered to serve at the 5th Remounting Commission in Hanover on April 22, 1902 and appointed chairman. As the contact person and confidante of the breeders in Hanover and Schleswig-Holstein , he had a great influence on the training of today's Hanoverians . Kleist was promoted to lieutenant colonel and was transferred to Berlin on July 7, 1913 as inspector of the military-veterinary commission and promoted to colonel on February 17, 1914 .

With the outbreak of the First World War , he was then used as an inspector of the replacement squadron of the V Army Corps in Münster . He also acted as an inspector of the military veterinary inspection in Berlin. On March 22, 1917 Kleist was given the character of major general on his departure and in May 1917 the Order of the Crown, 2nd class, for his services .

After the war, the Free and Hanseatic City of Lübeck became his retirement home.

family

Kleist was married to Agnes Strousberg (1856–1944), daughter of the railway company Bethel Henry Strousberg , since March 31, 1879 .

The two daughters Hedwig (1882–1966) and Asta (1899–1962, married to Wilhelm Vermehren ) and the four sons Curt (1880–1968), Wolf, Hans and Fritz emerged from the marriage.

After Kleist's death, his wife left the city and died in Stolp / Pomerania in 1944 .
