The haplogroup E is a haplogroup of the mitochondria ( mtDNA ) in human genetics . It is a subgroup of M.

Haplogroup E is distributed across southern Asia . So far it has been found on the Malay Peninsula and in the Sabah population of Borneo . The haplogroup was also found on the coasts of Papua New Guinea , as well as on Taiwan , the Philippines and on some Pacific islands such as Guam .
