The haplogroup I is in the Human Genetics a haplogroup the mitochondria ( mtDNA ).

Haplogroup I is common throughout Europe and also in the Middle East . It is believed that it originated somewhere in Eurasia about 30,000 years ago and was one of the first haplogroups on the way to Europe.

The ancestor of this haplogroup was haplogroup N (mtDNA) .
