Haplogroup V is in the Human Genetics a haplogroup the mitochondria ( mtDNA ).

Haplogroup V arose (like haplogroup H) from the haplogroup HV, probably around 12,000 years ago on the Iberian Peninsula. Today it is represented with concentrations of over ten percent in the Matmata beers of Tunisia, the Basques and the Sami (Lappen) of Scandinavia, with a lower concentration still in the Netherlands and the isolated Pasiegos in Cantabria .

In his popular book The Seven Daughters of Evas , Bryan Sykes names the first mother of this mtDNA haplogroup Velda.
