Hasan Okan Validang (born October 29, 1972 in Adana ) is a former Turkish football goalkeeper and coach .

Player career

The first years and Adana Demirspor

Validang began club football in 1991 in the youth of Adana Demirspor . For the 1992/93 season he was accepted as an amateur player in the professional squad of this club. On October 11, 1992 he made his professional debut during a second division match against Musspor . After this encounter he played in a cup encounter until the winter break, before he rose to the goalkeeper for the second half of the season. Through these achievements he fell on the then U-21 national coach of Turkey , Fatih Terim . He also looked after the Turkish Olympic selection that took part in the Mediterranean Games in 1993. Terim surprisingly nominated Validang in the squad of this tournament. Validang played in all of his team's games during this tournament and had a share in winning the gold medal. Here they prevailed against the teams from France and Italy and became tournament winners. With this success, which was rated as one of the greatest in Turkish football history to date, the unknown players were observed more closely by the talent scouts of the Turkish clubs. The Turkish first division team Gençlerbirliği Ankara reacted the fastest and committed three days after the end of the tournament.

Gençlerbirliği Ankara

Moved to Gençlerbirliği, he took over from Yugoslav goalkeeper Ivo Simunic in the first few days of the game and kept it for the next two seasons. Through his performances in the 1994/95 season he rose to the national team and made it into the transfer list of many larger clubs.

Istanbulspor

For the 1995/96 season İstanbulspor rose to the Süper Lig . Previously, the club was bought by billionaire Cem Uzan . With Istanbulspor he wanted to create an alternative to the three big Istanbul clubs Galatasaray Istanbul , Fenerbahçe Istanbul and Beşiktaş Istanbul . National and international stars such as Oleg Salenko , Peter van Vossen , John van den Brom , Saffet Akyüz , Emre Aşık , Sergen Yalçın , Oğuz Çetin , Tanju Çolak , Hamza Hamzaoğlu etc. were bought regardless of cost . Validang was among the signed players. Leo Beenhakker was hired as a coach . The first season did not go as expected and the team finished in a disappointing 13th place despite large investments. With Fahrudin Omerović and Haluk Güngör, Validang had two good goalkeepers to compete and played a total of nine league games.

Adanaspor

Validang left Istanbulspor after just one season and moved to the second club in his hometown, the second division Adanaspor . Here, too, Cem Uzan and his family clan, who come from this region, worked as a patron and tried to build this former permanent member of the highest Turkish league into a successful club again. In his new place of work, Validang immediately rose to become the undisputed goalkeeper. While you just missed promotion in the 1996/97 season, you achieved direct promotion to the 1st Lig through the runner-up in the TFF 1st Lig . Promoted to the 1st league, Validang lost his regular place to the second goalkeeper Yavuz Eraydın .

Gaziantepspor

After losing his regular place at Adanaspor, Validang moved to Gaziantepspor within the league . At this club Ömer Çatkıç was already set as a regular goalkeeper. Validang remained his substitute for three seasons and completed some sporadic missions. During his time at Gaziantep he was twice third in the table with the club and was involved in the greatest successes in the club's history to date.

Career end

In the summer of 2003, Validang moved to the second division Kayserispor . Here he was immediately set as the goalkeeper. But after the promotion failed at the end of the season, he left this club. For the new season he moved to league rivals Mersin İdman Yurdu . After a year with this club he moved to the TFF 3rd Lig to Kardemir DÇ Karabükspor . The 2005/06 season he spent with the third division side Kahramanmaraşspor and Yıldırım Bosnaspor . After he had been active for one season each for the clubs Afyonkarahisarspor and Bugsaş Spor , he ended his active career in the summer of 2008.

National team

Validang was nominated by the then U-21 national coach of Turkey , Fatih Terim , in the squad of the Turkish Olympic selection for the 1993 Mediterranean Games . Here he was used in all games of his team and became gold medalist with his team. After this tournament he played two more times for the Turkish U-21 national team .

In 1995 he was appointed to the national team five times by Fatih Terim , who had meanwhile become the coach of the Turkish national team. He sat in four of these games on the bench and completed his first and last international game during a friendly on March 8, 1995 against the Israeli national team .

Coaching career

At the end of his footballing career, Validang took over the post of goalkeeper coach at Giresunspor . Just two months later he left this club and became a goalkeeping coach for the Turkish national youth team and was part of the coaching staff of national coach Guus Hiddink .

For the 2011/12 season he took over the post of goalkeeping coach at the first division club Gaziantepspor . In March 2013, he followed his former head coach in the Turkish U-21 selection , Raşit Çetiner , and became goalkeeping coach at the second division club Şanlıurfaspor .
