The Hasenkopf is 895  m above sea level. A. high mountain in the Austrian state of Salzburg directly on the Upper Austrian border. Not far to the south are the pictorial trees Goldene Kutsche  ( 867  m above sea level ) and Toter Mann  ( 874  m above sea level ) as landmarks.

Location and landscape

The wooded knoll lies between Wallersee and Irrsee (Zellersee) in the Kolomansberg massif , the eastern group of the Mondsee Flysch Mountains and northwest of the Salzburg Prealps . It is located to the south above Sommerholz and the Sommerholzer Sattel , which leads from Kolomansberg to Irrsberg , in the south-north striking main ridge of the massif. To the northwest below is the Wildeneck ruin .

The Salzburg-Upper Austrian border runs directly over the summit, where the communities of Neumarkt am Wallersee , Oberhofen am Irrsee and Tiefgraben meet.

250 meters south of the summit there is a saddle, which is called the Goldene Kutsche after the nearby field monument , another 200 meters south of this is a hill called the Dead Man .

Geology and hydrography

Geologically, the Hasenkopf belongs to the flysch zone , it consists of Oberkreideflysch, namely in the summit area Altlengbach Formation ( Maastrichtian - Thanetium , Wende Kreide / Paleocene, 70-50 million years), south of the Dead Man but partly cement marl series ( Coniacium - Campanium , approx . 90–70 million years old) This fold is typical for the Mondsee Flysch Mountains and is repeated several times up to the edge of the Alps.

The west flank drains several ditches to the Irrsee (Wildeneckbach, ditches near Hauben and Steininger ), the west side Klausbach and Petersgraben to Steinbach , which flows into the Wallersee via Neumarkt . The summit thus also forms the watershed between the Salzach region (towards the Inn ) and the Ager catchment area (towards the Traun ).

Ways and culture

The mountain is easily accessible from all sides on forest roads and various hiking trails. To the west below pass the Arnoweg (stage 58 Thalgau - Irrsdorf ) and Via Nova (connection parts 4 and 5 from Neumarkt or mountain variant Irrsdorf to Mondsee ), which share the same route for a while. A comparatively poor climb leads over the summit itself, which branches off the forest path at the Golden Coach south of the summit and meets it again north.

The golden carriage is reminiscent of a legend. The mistress von Wildeneck is said to have sunk into the forest floor as a punishment when she got lost in the forest in the evening with her magnificent carriage and when the prayer sounded from the summer wood, cursing her coachman to drive on instead of praying for assistance. Later a pit opened up, but the carriage was not found.

The Dead Man is a panel dedicated to a murder case. Here was on January 5, 1826 Anglöckler to a donut stabbed due. The Anglöckeln was a Heischebrauch on Epiphany , in which the poor received a village against audition a pastry, and as today Sternsingen will be maintained.
