Chiny house

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Chiny family is a noble family from the Ardennes who came under the ownership of the County of Chiny in the 10th or 11th century . The older line died out in 1226 in the male line, the county was inherited by the House Loon (also House Looz). A younger line in Mellier , Étalle and Neufchâteau existed until the beginning of the 14th century.

origin

There is uncertainty about the origin of the family. Otto, the first Count of Chiny from the family, sees one view as the son of Count Arnold, who married Mathilde, the little known heiress of the County of Chiny (see Schwennicke). Another view (see Settipani) identifies Otto (von Vermandois), the son of Count Adalbert I von Vermandois , with Otto (von Warcq), the builder (971) of the Warcq Castle northwest of Charleville-Mézières, and with Otto (von Chiny ), the great-grandfather of Count Arnold von Chiny, who owned Warcq Castle in 1066. This double identification makes the family of the Counts of Chiny an offshoot of the Carolingian imperial family and continued the existence of the Carolingians into the 14th century.
