Hedenäset

Hedenäset (Finnish Hietaniemi ) is a place ( Tatort ) in the Swedish province of Norrbotten County and in the historic province of Norrbotten .

location

Hedenäset belongs to the municipality of Övertorneå . The place is about 100 km as the crow flies northeast of the provincial capital Luleå and a good 20 km south of the main town of the municipality, Övertorneå , on the right bank of the Torne river , which marks the border with Finland there .

traffic

Riksväg 99 runs through Hedenäset and runs from Haparanda along the Torne älv and the Finnish border to Karesuando . The provincial road Länsväg 398 branches off in a westerly direction , which leads to the town of Sangis to the south .

In 1914 the Karungi – Övertorneå railway line was built through the town. In 1984 the passenger traffic and 1986 the freight traffic was stopped. In 1992 the line was then largely dismantled.

history

People have lived on the Torne älv for 5000 years. The population in Hedenäset has been decreasing continuously since the 1960s. The place used to be a center for training in the community.

Hietaniemi Church

At the southern end of the village is the wooden church Hietaniemi, built in 1747, with one of the oldest organs in Sweden.
