The Heideköpfe (actually Heidenkopf I , Heidenkopf II and Heidenkopf III ), wherein Dahlem are a three-member group of up to about 595  m above sea level. NHN high elevations and slope spurs in the North Eifel in the Euskirchen district and in the Vulkaneifel district in North Rhine-Westphalia  (NW) and Rhineland-Palatinate  (RP).

The Heidenköpfe are located in the Ripsdorfer Forest , part of the northern Eifel. In the nature parks Hohes Venn-Eifel (NW) in the north and Vulkaneifel (RP) in the south, they are on average around 2 km east of Dahlem (NW), 3.5 km south-southeast of Schmidtheim (NW), 3.5 km north-west of Esch (RP) and 3 km (as the crow flies ) west of Waldorf (NW). The wooded heather heads rise gently above the aforementioned localities, which are barely lower.

To the flowing water to the Heide heads include that the Heidenkopf I springing Kyll influx Glaadtbach ( Schmidt Heimer Morbach ) mounted on the Heidenkopf II swelling Glaadtbach inflow Morbach and at Heidenkopf III springing Ahr influx Schaaf Bach ( Eichholz Bach ).

The three heather heads are - with height in meters (m) above mean sea level (NHN):

  • Heidenkopf I (approx.  591  m ; ), NW; Hill ; with Roman road
  • Heidenkopf II ( 588.5  m ; ), NW; Slope spur ; with shooting range
  • Heidenkopf III (approx.  595  m ; ), NW / RP; Knoll ; with Roman road

Natural allocation

The heather heads belong to the natural spatial main unit group Eastern Eifel (No. 27) in the main unit Kalkeifel (276) to the natural area Eichholz -Rücken (276.3).

Protected areas

Up to the flanks of the Heideköpfe , parts extend this nature reserves NSG: Nonnenbach and Eichholz stream with valleys , NSG Former quarries on Sönsberg, Lanzberg and Kaucherbachtal , NSG in the water Dell and NSG Glaadtbachtal with side troughs (all NW) and NSG Schaafbachtal with valleys and Stromberg ( RP). In addition, parts of the Euskirchen district (NW) landscape protection area are located on the Heidenkopf .

Roman road Trier – Cologne

The Roman road from Trier to Cologne used to run through the wooded area between Heidenkopf I and III . A section of this is to be cleared and the road at the Vierherrenstein located 620 m (as the crow flies) southwest of Heidenkopf III is to be shown as the boundary between the districts that still exists today.

Traffic and walking

To the northwest and west past the Heidenköpf , the federal highway 51 leads between Dahlem and Schmidtheim to the southwest and to the south through Stadtkyll and Jünkerath the federal highway 421 . From the latter, the county road  67 branches off in Jünkerath , which runs northeast to Esch and then on to Waldorf. To the west, the Eifel line ( Eifelbahn ) runs through Schmidtheim, Dahlem and Jünkerath , from which the Vennquerbahn, leading to Belgium , used to branch off in Jünkerath . For example, starting at these traffic axes, you can hike the elevations on forest paths and paths.
