Margrave Heinrich I of Baden , later Margrave of Baden-Hachberg , (* before 1190; † July 2, 1231 ) was together with his brother Hermann V of Baden ruling Margrave of Verona and of Baden . He is the founder of the Baden-Hachberg sideline of the House of Baden .

Life

Margrave Heinrich I is the son of Hermann IV of Baden and Berthas of Tübingen .

Heinrich initially went a common political path with his brother Hermann V von Baden, but later the Margraviate of Baden split up and Heinrich called himself from then on "Margrave of Baden-Hachberg" or "Margrave of Hachberg and Sausenburg ". There are few sources that give information about Heinrich's work. He is mentioned for the first time in 1212 as “Margrave of Hachberg”. His margravate, however, was a large patchwork quilt , which led to many quarrels.

In 1218 King Friedrich II gave him the Landgraviate of Breisgau as a fief after the last Landgrave from the Zähringen lineage, Berthold V , had died. The dispute over the county rights in Breisgau led to war with the Counts of Freiburg and was only settled under Heinrich's son.

Heinrich married Agnes, a daughter of Count Egino IV of Urach and Agnes , daughter of Duke Berthold IV of Zähringen , who was regent for her sons in 1231. The following children emerged from the connection:

Heinrich was buried in the church of the Tennenbach Monastery, which was funded by the House of Baden-Hachberg and made his burial place .

It is mentioned here that there is a reference to Heinrich's participation in a knight tournament in 1197 in the literature, so that his presumed year of birth could be around 1180.
