Heinrich IV von Geroldseck
Heinrich IV. Von Geroldseck (* around 1220 ; † February 12, 1273 ) was bishop of Strasbourg from 1263 until his death .
Life
Heinrich was the son of Bourcard II from the Alsatian family of the gentlemen von Geroldseck am Wasichen. He was cantor of the cathedral chapter when he was elected bishop by the canons on March 10, 1263 . He made peace with the free imperial city of Strasbourg and waived any claims for damages for the damage suffered in the war against his predecessor. He recognized the rights of the city to freely elect a council and to dispose of the commons . The bishop retained the right to appoint the burgrave, mayor, tax collector and mint master. Heinrich mediated between the city and the Pope and achieved the repeal of the interdict . He enjoyed the reputation of charity, renewed the hospitals and expelled the cohabiting priests.
