Berthold von Buchegg

Berthold von Buchegg (also von Bucheck ; * before 1279 ; † November 25, 1353 in Molsheim ) was Bishop of Speyer in 1328 and as Berthold II. Bishop of Strasbourg from 1328 to 1353.

Berthold von Buchegg came from the Swiss family of the Counts of Buchegg . His father was Heinrich von Buchegg, Landgrave of Burgundy, and his mother was Adelheid from the house of the Counts of Strassberg . Berthold was when he was appointed bishop Komtur of the Teutonic Order in Koblenz , the seat of the German Order Coming Koblenz . Pope John XXII. selected him as an opponent of Ludwig of Bavaria . Despite warnings from the Pope, the Speyer canons held elections and chose Walram von Veldenz as Emich's relative and supporter of the Wittelsbach family . In 1305/07 he was Komtur at Castle Beuggen . Berthold could not keep himself in Speyer even with military means. Pope John XXII. Berthold tried to succeed his brother Matthias von Buchegg, who died in 1328, as Archbishop of Mainz, finally Berthold vacated the bishopric in favor of Walram von Veldenz in order to occupy the bishopric of Strasbourg.

There he hired the chronicler Matthias von Neuenburg as legal advisor in 1329 .
