Adolf von Eppstein

Adolf von Eppstein († 1433 or 1434 in Mainz ) was Bishop of Speyer from 1430 to 1433/34 .

Life

Adolf von Eppstein comes from the noble family of the Lords of Eppstein , which provided four Archbishops of Mainz . He was canon in Mainz and provost of the Frankfurt Bartholomäusstift , became a canon and archdeacon in Trier in 1422 . On May 22nd, 1430 Pope Martin V appointed him the successor of the Speyer Bishop Raban von Helmstatt , who became Archbishop of Trier . Raban, who was unable to prevail against his rival Ulrich von Manderscheid in Trier , was entrusted by the Pope with the administration of the Speyer diocese. Adolf von Eppstein, who never received episcopal ordination, died in Mainz in 1433 or 1434 and was buried in the cloister of Mainz Cathedral .
