Heinrich Karl Strohm
Karl Heinrich Strohm (* 4. February 1895 in Elberfeld ; † 9. June 1959 in Cologne ) was a German director and theater and opera intendant .
Life
First working as a director at the theater in Kiel, he became director of the Bayerische Landesbühne , a touring theater. From 1925 to 1927 he directed the Würzburg City Theater , then until 1933 the City Theater Aachen . During his time as director of the Hamburg Opera (1933–1940) he developed the famous Hamburg style , with which he wanted to achieve a completely harmonious work of all participating artists. In 1937 he applied for membership in the NSDAP . In 1939 he directed the Salzburg Festival . During the 5th Reichstheaterwoche he made guest appearances with his house in Vienna, where he was appointed general manager of the Vienna State Opera as the successor to Erwin Kerber . Due to a serious illness, his term of office only lasted from September 1, 1940 to January 31, 1941. After his recovery, he worked as a director again. a. in December 1942 the opera Der Rosenkavalier in Rome . After 1945 Strohm was a member of the board of the German Stage Association . In the early 1950s he worked briefly as director of the Monschau Festival .
Strohm had been a member of the Catholic student association KDStV Alania Bonn since 1918.
