Heinrich Ludwig Freshness (born January 9, 1831 in Altenbruch , † December 5, 1901 in Düsseldorf ) was a German landscape painter .

Life

Born in Altenbruch near Cuxhaven, Heinrich Ludwig Freshness, after training in Hamburg as a decorative painter and self-taught studies, initially went on short trips, which he financed with his work as a portrait draftsman and painter. From 1858 to 1862 he then attended the Düsseldorf Art Academy as a student of Hans Gude . With the exception of study trips , Freshness stayed in Düsseldorf and was a member of the Malkasten Artists' Association from 1864/65 to 1901 . He was married. Of his sons, Arnold Frisch (* 1869 in Düsseldorf) was a student at the Düsseldorf School of Applied Arts from 1884 to 1887 and, after a few trips, from 1890 to 1896 at the Düsseldorf Art Academy , where he trained as a painter, but mainly as a sculptor. In addition to portrait busts and grave monuments, he created a. a. a war memorial for Ratingen (1898), the three emperors memorial in Wanne (Herne) (1901) and sculptures for the building of the Knappschaftsverein in Bochum . Another son, Emil Frisch (* 1872 in Düsseldorf), was a pupil of Claus Meyer at the Düsseldorf Academy and stayed in Florence for a long time . His works include portraits, interiors, still lifes and figure scenes, with which he is at the exhibitions a. a. in Düsseldorf (1908, 1909, 1912, 1913, 1915), Berlin (1910) and Munich (1908, 1912).

Work and exhibitions

Heinrich Ludwig Freshness created “well-composed” landscape views of the Harz Mountains and later also of the English coast , Tyrol and Switzerland . The contemporary press praised the harmonious effect of his compositions, whose expressive mood he achieved through strong colors. He has shown his work in Düsseldorf since 1862 - including at the exhibitions of the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1872 and 1899 and the major art exhibitions from 1893 to 1896 - as well as in Berlin , Braunschweig , Bremen , Dresden , Hamburg , Hanover , Magdeburg and Vienna . During the First World War, paintings were in the museums of Cologne , Hanover, Magdeburg, Prague and Rostock .
