Heinrich von Schweinitz

August Karl Heinrich von Schweinitz (born October 23, 1805 in Neisse ; † February 21, 1879 in Pöpelwitz ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and inspector of the 5th engineer inspection.

Life

Heinrich was a son of the Prussian major a. D. Ernst von Schweinitz (1777–1853) and his wife Konstantine Karoline, née Giese (1786–1862).

Military career

Schweinitz received his school education at the boarding school in Gnadenfrei . He then joined the 5th Pioneer Department of the Prussian Army as a pioneer on June 1, 1821 . For further training he graduated from the United Artillery and Engineering School from October 23, 1822 to 1823 and was promoted to Portepeefähnrich in mid-November 1822 . On April 1, 1823, he joined the 3rd and then on October 1st, 1823 the 5th pioneer division. On October 1, 1825, he was transferred to the 6th Pioneer Department, where he was initially aggregated as a second lieutenant on January 15, 1826, and was assigned on December 30, 1826. On December 28, 1829, he was transferred to the Guard Pioneer Department , where he was appointed adjutant on April 1, 1830 . On March 26, 1832, he came to the fortress Spandau for the fortification service and on April 21, 1833 to the Posen fortress . He was transferred to the 2nd engineer inspection on April 25, 1835, but was returned to the 6th engineer department on November 1, 1836. On February 1, 1839, he was posted to the 8th Pioneer Department and on May 1, 1839, he was sent to the Fortinikationsdienst in Wittenberg. There he was promoted to Premier Lieutenant on November 4, 1840 . He returned to the 6th Pioneer Department on April 18, 1843, was initially commissioned as a surplus captain to lead the 1st Company on July 3, 1845 , and was appointed chief on December 11, 1845 . Schweinitz rose to command of the 6th Pioneer Division on May 30, 1850. Under position à la suite of the engineer corps he was appointed adjutant of the general inspection of the engineer and engineer corps and the fortresses on May 3, 1853 . At the same time he was also a member of the examination committee for captains and prime lieutenants.

Promoted to major on June 28, 1853, he became a member of the study commission for the division schools on March 31, 1857. When he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on May 22, 1858 , he came à la suite of the staff of the engineering corps and on June 5, 1858 as an inspector in the 1st fortress inspection. Then he was on January 17, 1860 with the Red Eagle Order III. Awarded a ribbon in the class and promoted to colonel on July 1, 1860. On September 5, 1861 he became inspector of the 1st Pioneer Inspection and on October 11, 1861 he was again a member of the examination commission for captains and prime lieutenants. He received the Order of the Crown III on December 24, 1862 . Class and was transferred to the 2nd engineer inspection as an inspector on January 9, 1864. There he was promoted to major general on April 18, 1865 and on September 12, 1865 also to the chair of the examination commission for captains and prime lieutenants. On October 9, 1865 he received the Crown Order II. Class and on December 2, 1865 the Grand Cross of the House Order of the Wendish Crown . During the mobilization on the occasion of the war against Austria , he was appointed 1st engineer officer in the staff of the High Command of the 2nd Army on May 19, 1866 and took part in the battle of Königgrätz . After the war, on September 17, 1866, he was again inspector of the 2nd engineer inspection and was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class, with oak leaves and swords on the ring, on September 20, 1866. On April 18, 1867 he was promoted to lieutenant general and on June 29, 1867, he was transferred to the 5th engineer inspection as inspector; on September 24th, 1867, he was put up for disposal with a pension .

He received the Nischan Istikar Order, First Class , from the Bey of Tunis . He died on February 21, 1879 in Pöpelwitz as a knight of the Order of St. John .

family

He married Ottilie von Tschepe and Weidenbach (1820–1872) on October 13, 1837 in Neisse. The couple had several children:
