Heinz-Georg Wilhelm Migeod
Heinz-Georg Wilhelm Migeod (* 24. February 1918 in Szczecin ; † 18th November 2010 in Somerset West , South Africa) was a German officer of the Air Force during the Second World War and later historian , orientalist , author and businessman .
Life
As the son of the commander of the Reserve Jäger Battalion No. 17, who fell in 1918, he grew up on the Kriegersdorf ( Karbowo ) family estate in the Strasburg / West Prussia district , and from 1920 Polish.
In 1936, he joined as a volunteer and officer candidates in the Artillery - Regiment 12 in Schwerin one.
After volunteering, he switched to the Air Force; from July 1938 he started to train as a pilot near Munich , Neubiberg and Schleissheim . In March 1940 he was transferred to the I. Group Sturzkampf squadron 76, from July 1940 the I./StG 76 was renamed I./StG 3, but remained subordinate to other squadrons until the beginning of 1942. In 1940 Heinz Migeod took part in the campaign in the west and in the Battle of Britain .
From 1941 he was deployed in the war against Greece and the airborne battle over Crete, and from November 1941 he took part in the African campaign. After being shot down on November 11, 1942 by a South African fighter plane, he was taken prisoner by the English, from which he was released in June 1947 in Munsterlager and Dachau. His last rank was a captain.
After the end of the war, Migeod studied the history of Islam and economics in Munich and Göttingen . In 1956 he received his doctorate with Maxima Cum Laude. As a foreign delegate for Farbwerke Hoechst he was deployed in Syria , Lebanon , Sudan and Ethiopia . From 1964 he promoted German private investments and carried out inspections of development aid projects in Turkey for the Near and Middle East Association . From 1973 to 1988 he worked as a self-employed businessman in South Africa.
