Heinz Gebauer

Heinz Gebauer (actually Heinrich Gebauer ; born September 19, 1902 in Röchlinghausen ; † January 24, 1955 in Wuppertal - Elberfeld ) was a German politician . During the time of the Third Reich he was Lord Mayor of Viersen (1933–1936), Rheydt (1936–1940) and Wuppertal (1940–1945).

Life

Gebauer was born on September 19, 1902 in Röchlinghausen. He first moved to Heidelberg and later to Münster to study law and political science . During his studies he became a member of the Vineta Heidelberg fraternity in 1921 . From 1929 until 1933 he worked as a lawyer in Uerdingen and Krefeld . In 1930 he joined the NSDAP . After Gebauer had given up his profession as a lawyer in 1933, he was appointed mayor of Viersen on August 22, 1933 . He held this position until June 18, 1936, the day before he was appointed Lord Mayor of Rheydt. Finally, on May 8, 1940, Gebauer was appointed Lord Mayor of Wuppertal. Gebauer had to give up his work as Lord Mayor of Wuppertal on April 16, 1945. After a brief imprisonment in 1949, he worked again as a lawyer in Wuppertal, where he also died on January 24, 1955.
