Orthodox Church
One of the two Orthodox churches on Muhu is located in Hellamaa. It reports to the Estonian Apostolic Orthodox Church (EAÕK).
The Peter and Paul Church was built in 1866. In its simple style, it is strongly reminiscent of the construction of Lutheran churches. The project by the architect A. Edelson is a copy of the Ļaudona Orthodox Church built two years earlier . The same places of worship were also built in Lelle and Vändra .
In the church a plaque commemorates the clergyman Hermann Aav (1878–1961). He was born in Hellamaa and was Archbishop of the Orthodox Church of Finland from 1925 to 1960 .
A few meters from the church is the village cemetery on the edge of the forest.
Sons and daughters of the place
The Estonian composer and saxophonist Villu Veski was born in Hellamaa in 1962 .
