Viira (German Wiiraküla ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) on the third largest Estonian island of Muhu . It belongs to the rural community of the same name ( Muhu vald ) in the Saare district ( Saare maakond ).

Population and location

The place has 50 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). It is twelve kilometers northwest of the Kuivastu ferry terminal .

Muhu cemetery

The Lutheran cemetery of Muhu ( Muhu kalmistu ) is located in Viira .

There lies u. a. the writer, translator, sexton and school teacher Carl Wilhelm Freundlich (actually Carl Wilhelm Henrikson , 1803–1872) is buried.
