Orthodox Church
In the village there is one of the two Orthodox churches on the island of Muhu. It was built between 1871 and 1873 when, under the sign of the Russification of Estonia and Livonia, more than two thirds of the inhabitants of Muhu converted from the Evangelical Lutheran faith to Orthodoxy .
The church is dedicated to the icon of Our Lady of Kazan . The cross-domed church was created as a type project by the Hamburg- born architect Heinrich Carl Scheel (1829–1909) who worked in Riga .
In the church there are some icons painted by the later Archbishop of the Orthodox Church in Finland, Hermann Aav (1878–1961) , who came from Muhu . A plaque commemorates him.
The church is now subordinate to the Estonian Apostolic Orthodox Church .
