Helmut Rombach (born February 25, 1961 in Aachen ) is a former German soccer player .

Player career

Helmut Rombach played for Westwacht Aachen in his youth . His first club in the men's area was TuS 08 Langerwehe . He played for Langerwehe from 1979 to 1982 before signing a contract with Alemannia Aachen . At Alemannia Helmut Rombach became a regular player straight away and completed 34 games in the 1982/83 second division season . In 1983/84 Aachen played for a long time for promotion, but only finished sixth at the end of the season. With 19 goals of the season, Rombach was by far the most accurate Alemanne and finished fifth on the goal scorer list with Jürgen Klinsmann .

In 1984 Helmut Rombach went to the Bundesliga club Waldhof Mannheim . Under Klaus Schlappner , he did not get beyond the role of supplementary player there in 1984/85 . The 1985/86 season was also unsuccessful for Rombach.

So he left Mannheim after two years and signed a contract with Hessen Kassel . In 1986/87 Rombach initially had teething problems under Rudolf Kröner in the 2nd division. After switching to Elmar Müller , however, Rombach was able to become part of the team. Even under his successors Werner Biskup and Holger Brück , he was part of the core of the team. At the end of the season he had scored eight goals together with Thomas Freudenstein, the most goals in Hessen , but could not prevent relegation.

Then Rombach moved to Hertha BSC in the Berlin amateur league . At the beginning he did not play under Jürgen Sundermann , but became a regular player in the final phase of the season and scored eight goals. Only Stephan Täuber scored more often for Hertha with eleven goals. Through the championship, Hertha qualified for the promotion round to the 2nd Bundesliga. In the last game, Hertha met Preußen Münster in the Preußenstadion and needed a win to be promoted. Rombach scored three goals in a 4-1 away win and defeated Münster almost single-handedly. After the rise, Rombach was a regular player under Sundermann and his successor Werner Fuchs in 1988/89 and contributed with his eight goals - only Theo Gries had been allowed to celebrate a goal more often with nine goals - to keep the league. In 1989/90 , however, he did not get beyond the role of a supplementary player in the storm and went back to Alemannia Aachen during the winter break.

But even in Aachen Helmut Rombach could not really gain a foothold in the second half of the season and was relegated to the Oberliga Nordrhein at the end of the season . In 1990/91 Rombach played 28 games as a defender in six goals, but could not do anything about the fact that Aachen missed the rebound despite the at least defeats in second place behind FC Remscheid .

In 1991 Rombach moved to Belgium to AS Eupen . He then went to his first club Westwacht Aachen as a player-coach, where he ended his career.

Private
