Hendrik De Villiers (born December 22, 1981 in Pretoria ) is a former South African triathlete .

Career

De Villiers started triathlon at the age of 18. He celebrated his first major success in 2004 with eighth place at the Junior World Championship held in Madeira , and at the end of the year he was among the top 100 of the ITU's world rankings for the first time . The following year he won the silver medal at the African Championships in KwaZulu-Natal and finished tenth at the 2006 Commonwealth Games .

With winning the African Championship and his first victory at a World Cup event, 2007 turned into his most successful season to date. In March 2008 in Hammamet , De Villiers secured a starting place at the Summer Olympics in Beijing by defending the title at the African Championships .
