Henning von Boehmer (born January 6, 1903 in Groß-Lichterfelde ; † December 6, 1987 in Neckargemünd ) was a German entrepreneur , board member , forest estate owner , lawyer and civil servant .

origin

Henning von Boehmer comes from the Prussian family of lawyers Böhmer / von Boehmer , whose origins go back to around 1600. His ancestors include Justus Henning Boehmer , director of the Leopoldina in Halle an der Saale and one of the most important canon lawyers of the 17th and 18th centuries. Century, as well as Johann Samuel Friedrich von Böhmer , director of the University of Frankfurt an der Oder and one of the leading criminal lawyers of the 18th century. His brother Hasso von Boehmer was a lieutenant colonel i. G. one of the resistance fighters of July 20, 1944 and was executed in 1945 in Berlin-Plötzensee .

His parents were Hugo Erich von Boehmer and Ellinor Seliger (1868–1954), daughter of the landowner and court clerk Carl Gustav Albert Seliger (1829–1901) and Mary Barbara Rennie (1836–1920) from New Alredsford / Hantshire / Scotland .

Life

After graduating from the Helmholtz-Gymnasium in Berlin-Schöneberg , Henning von Boehmer studied law and economics in Berlin and Greifswald. He spent part of his studies in England and the USA , where he was one of the first German exchange students at the time.

After the assessor exam he worked in the legal department of the Ufa ( Universum Film Aktien-Gesellschaft ) belonging to his father-in-law Alfred Hugenberg's group. He later took over the management of the legal department. His tasks included on the one hand to implement the dismissals decided by the board of directors as part of the Aryanization in 1933 , among others by the director Erik Charell , on the other hand he also negotiated with the Swedish actress Zarah Leander, for example . Together with his colleague Helmut Reitz, he wrote the book Der Film in Wirtschaft und Recht . In 1937, Ufa was sold to the NSDAP under pressure from Joseph Goebbels . In this context, Henning von Boehmer had to leave the Ufa and changed from 1937 to 1944 to the board of also the Hugenberg group belonging Scherl publishing house . This prosperous publishing group included newspapers such as the “ Berliner Lokal-Anzeiger ”, “Nachtausgabe”, or “ Die Woche ” and the magazine “ Die Gartenlaube ” as well as numerous subsidiaries and holdings. Hugenberg's plan to transfer the management of the group to Boehmer's previous deputy chairman in 1943 failed because the publishing house had to be sold by Max Amann , a subsidiary of the NSDAP, to Franz-Eher-Verlag in 1944, under pressure from the Reich government . Hugenberg combined his remaining companies in the Opriba Handels- und Verwaltungs-KG . Von Boehmer left the Scherl-Verlag and was a partner in Opriba. As early as 1939 he had bought the Kähnert forest estate in the Grabow community near Magdeburg , which was expropriated in 1945/1946 as part of the land reform in Germany . His son Götz von Boehmer bought the family property back after reunification .

After the Second World War , von Boehmer and his former neighbor, Hans Olaf von Rohr, founded Landinventar-GmbH in Koldingen near Hanover , which concentrated on the chemical analysis of soil samples, among other things. In 1949 he entered the service of the two-zone administration for finances in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe , the forerunner of the Federal Ministry of Finance . With the establishment of the federal government in Bonn , the family also moved there. During his time in Homburg, he wrote a commentary on the D-Mark Accounting Act. In 1965 he had himself retired at his own request.

Henning von Boehmer was first married to Hanna Hugenberg (1901–1982), the daughter of the media entrepreneur and former Reich Minister. D. Alfred Hugenberg. From this marriage the ambassadors a. D. Götz von Boehmer (1929–2019) and the doctor Ingrid von Boehmer (1930–2002), married to Albrecht von Wachter and parents of the religious philosopher Daniel von Wachter . In his second marriage he was married to Margarethe Nelly Emmy Birute ("Buti") geb. Baronesse von der Ropp (1917–2011), widowed Boettcher, daughter of Dipl.-Ing. Friedrich von der Ropp, hut director, writer, evangelist as well as co-founder and leader of the Baltic Brotherhood , a forerunner organization of today's Brotherhood , a Christian lay brotherhood with an evangelical character. The daughter Bettina von Boehmer-Asmus (* 1951) comes from this marriage.

Through his grandmother Mary Barbara Rennie, Henning von Boehmer is a direct descendant of the Pilgrim Governor William Bradford , who emigrated to Plymouth (Massachusetts) / USA together with the Pilgrim Fathers on the Mayflower in 1620 . With this, the descendants of Hugo Erich von Boehmer are entitled to become members of the renowned General Society of Mayflower Descendants in the USA.
