Herbert Neumann (District Administrator)
Herbert Neumann (born January 9, 1888 in Gehlenburg , Masuria , † July 18, 1976 in West Berlin ) was a German administrative lawyer.
Life
After graduating from the Friedrichsschule Gumbinnen , Neumann studied law at the Ludwig Maximilians University . In 1909 he became active in the Corps Isaria . He moved to the local Albertus University in Königsberg , where he passed the legal trainee examination in 1913 . From October 1913 he served as a reserve officer in the Litthau Uhlan Regiment No. 12 in Insterburg . With him he was on the Eastern Front throughout the First World War , most recently in Lithuania and Courland . In Estonia, occupied by the German army , he became the deputy of the district chief of Wierland , an administrative district founded by the military administration. In October 1917, Prince Heinrich came to Wierland as head of the fleet to prepare the Albion company . For aerial reconnaissance he ordered Gunther Plüschow , who insisted on Neumann's participation.
After the assessor examination (1921) Neumann came to the government in Gumbinnen . In Germany's easternmost administrative district , he represented district administrators. In 1922 he became district administrator of the Preussisch Eylau district . According to media reports, he felt that he was not always shown adequate respect in public, which he sometimes tried to force. On the occasion of his ten-year service anniversary, the city of Pr. Eylau named a street after him in 1932. Although he was far removed from the National Socialist German Workers' Party and made no concessions to its leadership, he was able to stay in the post until September 1938. He was released on the pretext of having attended a family celebration of Chamberlain von Elard von Oldenburg-Januschau .
In May 1939 he took over the management of the Oberlandratsbezirks Königgrätz in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia . Last seconded to Reichenberg , which was occupied by German troops in October 1938 , he took part in the attack on Poland in September 1939 . As an administrative lawyer on hold since November 1939, he was retired in November 1940 at his own request because of a serious spinal injury and released from the army (Wehrmacht) .
In the last years of the war he made his administrative experience available to public and semi-public institutions of the Reich. In the post-war period he advised the Berlin magistrate and the Evangelical Church . From 1949 until old age he was an administrative lawyer representing before the administrative courts in Berlin . He had his office at Kurfürstendamm 103/104. His documents, which were important for contemporary history , were taken into safekeeping by the East Prussian Landsmannschaft . Since 1950 he was the Masovia corps bow bearer . The Corps Palaiomarchia awarded him (like the other Masurians) the ribbon in 1960.
