Hermann Beckmann (born November 27, 1930 in Duisburg ; † March 5, 2017 in Munich ) was a German company founder and director.

biography

education and profession

From 1939 Beckmann attended the Steglitz grammar school (also Heese grammar school) in Berlin , and from 1943 to 1950 the Berthold grammar school in Freiburg im Breisgau . He then studied law at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . At first he stayed there, as assistant to Fritz von Hippel , devoting himself to legal theory. In 1961 Beckmann went into the free economy at Allianz in Stuttgart , in the organization area. Among other things, he was entrusted with setting up claims offices in Ravensburg and Ulm . In 1965 he moved to Caritas in Munich, where he built up modern structures.

Entrepreneurial activity

On October 10, 1966, Beckmann founded the Münchner Altenwohnstift (MAW) association with Heinrich Junker , Willi Guthsmuths , Fritz Rüth , Heinz Wirsching, Otto Hintner and Eduard Oehl, with the aim of creating contemporary living space for old people. As a voluntary authorized representative of the MAW, he set the course for the association's first residential monastery, accompanied the planning and construction, and in 1968 finally became Managing Director of the MAW. Residential pens in Ottobrunn , Rottach-Egern , Konstanz , Bad Dürrheim , Baden-Baden , Bad Krozingen , Unterhaching , Bad Nauheim , Aalen and Bielefeld followed; in addition, a care pen, a nursing school for the elderly and a clinic for geriatric and neurological rehabilitation in Bad Griesbach im Rottal .

The residential pens were initially sponsored by regional housing associations, with Beckmann managing all of the company's residential pens. After the company grew, it was important to join forces. And so Hermann Beckmann set the course to unite all residential pens. In 1996 they merged with the KWA Kuratorium Wohnen im Alter . Beckmann then retired.

Development of residential pens

The state nursing homes did not meet Beckmann's ideas of a dignified and independent life in old age. That is why he had residential pens built in which older people can on the one hand stay in a locked apartment for themselves, and on the other can meet in various common rooms, for example for joint sport or cultural events. Beckmann played a key role in developing this innovative way of living independently and at the same time well cared for in old age. In the first residential pen, he worked with the Munich telephone company to ensure that all apartments had telephone connections as early as 1969. The fact that all residents had their own small kitchen and bathroom was also very progressive at the time. The residential pen concept was so successful that the company KWA Kuratorium Wohnen im Alter , founded by Beckmann, still sticks to the term “residential pen” today.

Honorary positions

Beckmann was particularly committed to the construction of the Marianne Strauss Clinic in Berg am Starnberger See , for which he took over the honorary management. In addition, he was committed to German work for the elderly and senior citizens, including:

  • the Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband Bayern,
  • the Luise Kiesselbach Foundation,
  • the Lindner Foundation,
  • the Ellenruth von Gemmingen Foundation,
  • the Walter Brehm and Susanne Paul Foundation.
