Hans Hermann Julius Hager (born January 3, 1816 in Berlin ; † January 24, 1897 in Neuruppin ) was a German pharmacist , chemist and author of pharmaceutical and botanical writings.

Hermann Hager was born as the son of the military doctor Johannes Hager. Hager attended school up to grammar school in Torgau . At the age of sixteen he trained as a pharmacist at the Löwen-Apotheke in Salzwedel and passed his state examination in 1841 without prior studies . Two years later he bought a pharmacy in Fraustadt and stayed there until 1859 . The next stop in his life was Berlin before he bought an old powder mill near Fürstenberg (Oder) . Ten years later he lived in Frankfurt (Oder) . He was the editor of the Central Pharmaceutical Hall until 1879, when he was co-editor of the industrial papers (1863-1894). Hager discovered numerous new testing methods, including a. in the field of food chemistry , invented apparatus and new processes for his subject and was considered "one of the most fruitful writers in pharmacy" and translator. a. the official Latin text for Pharmacopoeia Germanica I .

He was a member of numerous pharmaceutical and related societies and the American Pharmaceutical Association and established his international reputation primarily with his "Manuale pharmaceuticum Hageri," and the "Handbuch der Pharmaceutical Praxis". In 1896 Hager moved to live with his son in Neuruppin, where he died on January 24, 1897. His wife Charlotte Friederike Auguste Bauer (born August 10, 1824 in Lissa , † January 29, 1897 in Neuruppin) was buried next to him. The couple also had a daughter.
